1918 – 2015

FARMINGTON — Barbara B. Nelson, 96, a resident of Park Street, Livermore Falls, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, at Sandy River Center in Farmington.

She was born on March 16, 1918, in Portland, the daughter of Frank N. Bailey Sr. and Madaleen (Higgins) Bailey. She attended school in Auburn and graduated from Lisbon Falls High School in 1935.

On Oct. 28, 1938, in Vasselboro, she married Horace C. Nelson of Lewiston. He passed away in 1993.

Barbara worked at a leather factory in Ohio and later at Livermore Shoe, retiring in 1982.

Barbara enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family. She was a member of the North Livermore Baptist Church.

She is survived by her sons, Richard “Dick” Nelson and his wife, Mary Ann “Mimi,” of Jay; David Nelson and his companion, Judith Knapp, of Kent, Wash.; Neal Nelson and his wife, Sue, of Troy, Ohio, and Thomas Nelson and his wife, Betty, of Springfield, Ohio; her daughter, Donna Palmer and her husband, “Bucky,” of Livermore; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy Martin and Christina Pulsifer; two brothers, Richard Bailey and Frank Nelson Bailey; and her grandson, Michael “Spike” Nelson.
