MILO — Thousands of customers are without power in northern Penobscot and Piscataquis counties as utility crews investigate an outage.

An Emera Maine spokeswoman says crews are in the Milo area determining what caused the outage, which began at about 7 a.m. Thursday. The utility anticipated power will be restored by late morning on Thursday. The spokeswoman says crews will work to restore power “as quickly and safely as possible.”

According to Emera Maine’s power outage map, more than 3,300 customers were without power about 11 a.m. Thursday.

Emera Maine is asking residents who are using generators and alternate hearing sources during the power outage to follow safety guidelines.
