1921 – 2015

LEWISTON — Lucy M. Lukaszewicz, 93, of Lewiston, passed away peacefully at d’Youville Pavilion on Saturday, Feb. 7, as the Lord opened his arms and welcomed her home.

She was born in Lewiston on Dec. 26, 1921, a daughter of Bronislaw and Katarzyna Lukaszewicz, and was educated in Lewiston schools.

Lucy was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. Upon completion of her service time in the Navy, she entered into and graduated from nursing school, becoming a registered nurse. Her years working in nursing included several years at the former Central Maine General Hospital, now Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, and some years at the former Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston, known today as Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

She knew at seven years old she wanted to be a nurse. She fulfilled her dream job for life, which was caring for people, and made it into a rewarding career.

Lucy loved to travel and spend time with her brother, Francis, and visited as often as she could with her many friends and family. She was a loving, devoted and hardworking sister, aunt and friend who will be sadly missed.

She is survived by her brother, Frances Lukaszewicz; three nieces, Annette Lehouillier, Carol Hale and Susan Anderson; and many great-nieces and -nephews.

She was predeceased by her mother and father; brother, Stanley Lukaszewicz Sr.; and nephew, Stanley Lukaszewicz Jr.
