Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale offers no apologies for the alternative-rock-sounding songs on his band’s latest album, “Man on the Run.”

That sound helped propel the British group to the top of the charts in the 1990s. One of the era’s signature groups, Bush is once again embracing its alt-rock roots.

“It’s a bit heavy for the mainstream and a bit heavy for what’s going on, but I think that’s exciting,” Rossdale said in a statement about the new album.

“This is so against the tide and flying in the face of everything, it’s either a brilliant move or the dumbest ever. But behind it is a record that will stand the test of time.”

Bush will headline a concert at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston on Saturday, Feb. 21.

Also performing are Theory of a Deadman and Stars In Stereo. The concert is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $39.75.

“We’re expecting a crowd of about 2,000. It should be a good show,” said Jim Mercier, the Colisee box office manager.

Bush’s early works have withstood the test of time. Its 1994 debut album, the six-times platinum selling “Sixteen Stone,” peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and spawned No. 1 hits “Glycerine” and “Comedown” on Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks.

The song “Machinehead” is an anthem played at many sports stadiums.

The band’s second release, “Razorblade Suitcase,” released in 1996, is the only Bush album to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

In addition to Rossdale on vocals and guitar, the band includes guitarist Chris Traynor, bass player Corey Britz and drummer Robin Goodridge. Only Rossdale and Goodridge remain from the original lineup.

Rossdale, 49, is married to Grammy Award-winning singer Gwen Stefani of the group No Doubt. When Stefani served as a coach on the seventh season of the NBC show “The Voice,” Rossdale served as a mentor for the singing hopefuls on Stefani’s team.

The couple have been married for 12 years and have three children.

Canadian band Theory of a Deadman released its fifth album, “Savages,” last summer. They have hit Billboard’s Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks top-10 list seven times, including two No. 1 songs — “Bad Girlfriend” and “Lowlife.”

This is the first concert held at the Colisee since the Jungle Jam, featuring Big & Rich, performed Dec. 11. There are no other concerts planned at the Colisee at this time.
