MEXICO — A public hearing will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, when residents will decide whether to restrict the hours for parking on South Main Street to Alder Street during the winter months.

Discussion on the topic began during the board’s Feb. 10 selectmen’s meeting after Town Manager John Madigan said that Highway Department employee Andy Gestaut was having trouble plowing the road because of a vehicle parked on the side of the road.

When Selectman Reggie Arsenault pointed out that the town has a winter parking ban, Madigan explained that the parking ban was only for the overnight hours.

Madigan said that Highway Department Foreman John Blais recommended that the town place “No Parking” signs on either side of the street during the winter months.

The selectmen will also continue discussion on amending the town’s animal control ordinance in time for the June 10 ballot.

The Planning Board has been revising the ordinance since July 2014, after Animal Control Officer Anne Simmons-Edmunds suggested changes. Much of the discussion centered around whether the town should increase fees for residents with nuisance dogs and whether all dog owners should walk their dogs on a leash, regardless of the dog’s temperament.

During its Jan. 29 meeting, the Planning Board agreed to take its amendment suggestions and put them before the Board of Selectmen for approval.

Among the other items to be discussed at the Feb. 24 meeting are:

* A request from the WVAC to receive local franchise fees.

* An update on the Town Hall stove.

* Setting a date for first budget meeting for the 2015-16 fiscal year.

* An executive session to discuss police union negotiations.
