DYER BROOK — Speed and road conditions were factors in a crash involving two tractor-trailers on Interstate 95 shortly after noon on Tuesday, according to state police Lt. John Cote.
Beltier Marin, 46, of Providence was traveling south around mile 282 and passing vehicles while being followed by Robert Hamilton, 51, of Palmyra, who was doing the same, according to Cote.
Marin lost control of his rig while attempting to merge back into the travel lane, and started to jackknife, and Hamilton could not avoid a collision and struck the rear of Marin’s trailer, Cote said.
Marin was operating an unloaded car carrier while Hamilton was hauling a van box loaded with ash forest products.
The crash’s impact swung Marin’s vehicle around and his vehicle went off the right side of the road, facing north while Hamilton’s truck wound up off the left side of the road, Cote said.
Both drivers were wearing their seat belts and neither was seriously injured, although Hamilton complained of neck and shoulder pain.
Cote said 45 mile per hour speed limit signs were active at the time of the crash due to inclement weather, and the interstate will be at one lane at the crash scene for much of the rest of the day Tuesday as recovery of Hamilton’s load could take several hours.
