DEAR SUN SPOTS: Sun Spots has been very helpful in the past and I’m hoping you can do it again. I will be having a garage sale this weekend and am looking to donate any leftover items to a non-profit or charitable organization who would be willing to pick up the items after the sale. Could you please send me any names/phone numbers who may be interested?
ANSWER: Sun Spots did not locate any organizations that are having a yard sale within a short period of time after your garage sale and which pick up donated items. Sun Spots called Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice (www.ahch.org/) which hosts an annual yard sale to support Camp Dragonfly for grieving children and teens. They hold their sale in September and are not set up yet to collect items. You can call them at 207-777-7740 to find out when they will be ready for donations.
Yard sale donations (good condition only, no clothes) such as furniture, antiques, sports equipment, toys and outdoor items were needed for the fundraising efforts for the Vineyard Church (www.mechanicfallsvineyard.com/) teen mission group’s trip to Costa Rica. The Mechanic Falls-based group held their sale in March but you can call the church at 207-345-9501 to find out when they are collecting for their next sale.
The Lewiston Elks club (http://www.elks.org/lodges/home.cfm?lodgenumber=371) holds occasional yard sales throughout the year. Call them at 207-784-4801 to find out when they are having their next sale.
West Paris Congregational Church in Bethel (www.bethelcongregationalchurch.org/) just held a yard sale to benefit its Smile Fund. You can call them at 207-357-3524 to find out when they are collecting for their next benefit sale.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: For L.B. in Turner who is looking for a foam mattress for her camper: the place she is thinking of is the Fabric Warehouse at 104 Washington Street in Auburn. They have foam in all sizes and thicknesses, and I believe they will even cut it to her exact specifications. It will probably be cheaper than buying it from a camper manufacturer, although she will need to cover it with fabric herself. Their phone number is 207-784-7151. — Amy Chapman, Greenwood.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Last summer the paper mentioned Fabric Warehouse (the old Sharlaine’s) at the Washington St. rotary, as a source for foam of any size and thickness. — Anne in Lewiston.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Please add the Fabric Warehouse (www.fabricwarehouse.com/) on Washington Avenue in Auburn to your list of businesses that have and will cut foam to size. They also have a great selection of upholstery, drapery and quilting fabric and they are a great bunch of people to work with. — K.F. via online submission form.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: On Patriots Day (April 20), I was standing in line at Hannaford in Lewiston where I spoke to a young veteran behind me. This sounds like a long shot, but I wonder if he reads your column, would he call me. I’m an 80ish lady who has a book that might interest and help him. My husband and I are faithful readers of your valuable column. — J.M. at 207-783-1393.
