WILTON — Academy Hill School students held their annual hoop-athon, raising over $1300 for the Western Maine Play Museum being planned in town.

For the past 25 years, fourth-graders have participated in an annual business/education partnership with Hannaford. Children learn the basics of marketing, raise funds and donate profits to an area charity.

This year, students of Brenda Laverdiere and Morgan Turner chose the museum as the charity. Because the donation exceeded $1,000, students will be listed among the other major donors on a permanent display inside the museum and will have a brick engraved in their honor in the museum courtyard.

Top fundraiser for second grade was Summer Sawyer; third grade, Elijah Walker; fourth grade, Zach Poisson; and fifth grade, John Latimer.

The Western Maine Play Museum is “a place meant to ignite a life-long love of learning in children,” Angela McLeod, president of the museum board of directors, said.

The museum hopes to begin renovations on their building this year, and to open its doors in 2016.
