AUGUSTA — A group of Maine mayors is urging lawmakers to fix an error in a 2013 law that caused regulators to cut funding for energy efficiency programs.
The Mayors’ Coalition met at the Statehouse on Tuesday to discuss their priorities for the remainder of the legislative session. The group is made up of mayors from 12 communities, including Portland, Augusta and Bangor.
Mayor Colleen Hilton of Westbrook said in a statement that Efficiency Maine Trust programs are used by coalition members and local schools to reduce energy costs. She’s urging lawmakers to ensure that the programs receive the $38 million they were promised.
The group also called on lawmakers to expand the sales tax base, increase revenue sharing and funding for schools and support efforts to increase access to Broadband.
