VIENNA — Returning to the Vienna Union Hall by popular demand on Saturday, May 2 at 7 p.m. is a young, dynamic group from Waterville and Orono, Good Time Sound.
An a cappella vocal quartet Good Time Sound enjoys close harmony, tight chords, and entertaining audiences with their eclectic mix of songs. They love to sing and perform a variety of musical genres from doo-wop to barbershop, contemporary to classical.
Good-Time Sound features Ben Clark (Tenor), Jon Hawley (Lead), Mike Peterson (Baritone) and Bill Yates (Bass). They are all members of the Barbershop Harmony Society, and enjoy singing on various contest stages and barbershop chapter shows. They take great pride in remaining the last quartet standing at the end of the evening of singing. Guests will most assuredly find them busting chords in the parking lot after the show as they did last year, and are more than welcome to join them for a song or some tags!
Also performing is the new Mt. Blue High School a cappella group Flipsides directed by Lynn Wells, an elementary school teacher in RSU 9. Formerly Mt. Blue Voices, which ended when director Dennis Hayes retired, the group Flipsides was conceived and formed in October. Brandon Hickey is the group’s student musical director this year, arranging most of the music.
The requirements for being part of the group are an audition, participation in the High School Chorus and grades in good standing. Currently there are 15 members in the Flipsides including: Brandon Hickey (sr.), Andrew Gardiner (sr), Irene Moreno (sr), Gracie Libby (sr), Katherine Gunther (sr), Adrienne Chandler (Jr.), Jack Leopold (Jr), Roshan Luick (Jr), Alan Sherrod (Jr), Mackenzie Wells (So), Darby Sabin (So), Julia Ramsey (So), Maggie Hickey (So), Audrey Keith (Fr) and Tommy Eng (Fr).
They sing a varied repertoire of songs and most of all, the students have fun and enjoy what they do. This is a wonderful chance to support our school district music program since a portion of the funds raised will be given to the group to support this music program.
Tickets are on sale now. They are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. For advance tickets call 293-2674 or email viennauniuonhall@gmail.com. The Vienna Union Hall is located on 5 Vienna Mountain Rd., Vienna, ME.
