1937 – 2015

RUMFORD — Jean D. Arsenault, 78, of Isthmus Road, Rumford, passed away on Tuesday May 12, at her residence following a short courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Auburn on Jan. 19, 1937, a daughter of Roy and Thelma (Glover) Hodgson. Jean attended Rumford schools.

She married Donald P. Arsenault Sr. on July 17, 1953, and together, they raised nine children.

Jean loved her family unconditionally and loved living on the land she grew up on. She liked sitting and watching the multitude of birds that frequented the bird feeder.

She was a communicant of the Parish of the Holy Savior and was a member of the Daughters of Isabella; she was also a member of the Snowshoe Club and was a past member of the VFW Auxiliary.

Jean also liked listening to old country music and dancing to it. She enjoyed making jigsaw puzzles, solving hidden word puzzles and drinking strawberry milkshakes.

Surviving are her children, Nancy J. Theriault and fiancé, Jim Weston, of Mexico, Kenneth J. Arsenault and wife, Holly, of Rumford, Rita M. Easter and companion, Gene Rizner, of Brandon, Vt., Frank J. Arsenault and wife, Pennie, of Peru, David A. Arsenault of Carteret, N.J., Peter A. Arsenault and wife. Karen. of Oswego, N.Y., Chuck M. Arsenault and fiancée, Denise Myles, of Rumford, and Belinda J. Arsenault of Cape Elizabeth; three sisters, Hattie Freeman and husband, John, of Byron, Mavis Powell and companion, Oscar, of Dixfield, and Jody Flagg of Turner; two brothers, Alton Hodgson of Rumford, and John Hodgson and wife, Therese, of Rumford; 25 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Donald Arsenault Sr.; a son, Donald “Duck” Arsenault Jr.; two sisters, Ann Touchette and Lilla Gillis; and a brother, Henry Hodgson.
