AUBURN – The Auburn Community Band will fill Festival Plaza in the downtown will music from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Wednesdays, beginning June 13. The outdoor concerts are free and held weather-permitting.
Here is the summer lineup:
June 13: Opening night of the band’s 26th season
June 20: Music from around the world. Brazilian, British, European, Latin, and Spanish songs from TV, films and the Broadway stage
June 27: Music of famous composers. Featured will be Berlin, Bernstein, Carmichael, Gershwin, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Cole Porter, John Williams, Leroy Anderson, and John Phillip Sousa.
July 4: An evening of patriotic music. Band members will play spirited marches and patriotic songs, including a salute to every branch of the U.S. Armed Forces.
July 11: Forgotten but unforgettable – an evening of nostalgia
July 18: Showtime! The band will perform memorable tunes from both the stage and the big screen, including “Bye Bye Birdie, “Smokey Joe’s Café,” and “Mary Poppins.”
July 25: Big band and dance music. Performed will be 50 years of music, including big band tunes, Motown hits and today’s sounds of the Brian Setzer Orchestra. Also songs from the Broadway show “Grease”
Aug. 1: America’s favorite songs, with The Saints, Bill Bailey, Alexander’s Ragtime Band as just a sampling. Music by Hoagy Carmichael and selections from the “Wizard of Oz” and “My Fair Lady” will round out the program.
Aug. 8: Famous groups and people. Expect to hear songs originally performed by Elvis, Satchmo, Elton John, Count Basie and groups like the Beatles and the Beach Boys.
Aug. 15: Take two. This week has been reserved as a make-up for any of the above concerts canceled due to inclement weather. Otherwise, highlights from the nine previous programs will be presented.
Aug. 22: Greatest hits. The Auburn Community Band will play some of its liveliest and most requested songs.
