• Mock Lobster Salad – Miss Josephine M. Dunn, College Street: Use cold boiled halibut and cold boiled beets in the proportion of two-thirds halibut and one-third beets. Chop moderately fine, cover well with a nice salad dressing. Serve on lettuce.

• Thursday afternoon George Hale of Lewiston, who is one of the party stopping at J. J. Klusener’s cottage for a two days outing, caught one of the largest brown trout ever taken from Lake Auburn. The fish was 30 inches and weighed 12 pounds. It was a beauty, and Mr. Hale was feeling very proud of his catch last evening.

WASHINGTON – The Federal Communications Commission said today that after a two-year study it has decided it has legal authority to authorize pay-as-you-see television service “if it finds it would be in the public interest to do so.” The commission said that it was leaving for future determination just how to classify any subscription TV service which may be authorized.

AUGUSTA – The House reversed its stand tonight and joined the Senate in favoring an amended bill to regulate automobile sales financing. Before passing the bill to be engrossed, the House defeated an amendment offered by Rep. Dumais (D-Lewiston). He said the amendment would reduce from 25.2 percent to 17.2 percent a year the maximum finance charge which the finance companies could collect on loans for cars more than 3 years old.

• A Washington-based research group that surveyed all Maine bridges more than 20 feet in length last March has come up with the conclusion that more than one-fourth of the structures are overdue for major repairs or replacement. The group recommended a 10-year program costing $23.3 million to correct the deficiencies.

• The annual bike-a-thon, organized to raise money for the pediatric wards at Central Maine Medical Center and St. Mary’s General Hospital, was termed a big success by one of the planners, Donald Canaan, adviser to the sophomore class at Lewiston High School.
