Out-of-control spending, crushing debt, non-elected bureaucrats regulating every nuance of people’s lives — the list of abuses of the federal government goes on and on.
Those who believe the federal government is out of control have a way to fix it by amending the Constitution. But today, elected federal officials — the very people who initiated the process of amending the Constitution in the past — are, in fact, the problem.
The Founding Fathers gave the people a way to fix the federal government if it got out of control. We, the people, through our state legislatures, under Article 5 of the U.S. Constitution, can call a “convention of states” for the purpose of proposing amendments to the U.S. Constitution. A bill currently before the Maine Legislature does just that. Most other states are in the process of considering such a call as well.
The experiment with big government has failed. The U.S. needs: a balanced federal budget, laws passed only by elected officials and not non-elected bureaucrats, term limits on the Congress and the Supreme Court, and other changes to limit the scope of the federal government.
Maine’s state representatives and state senators should support H.P. 804.
The people should take our country back.
