JAY — The AmeriCorps program at Spruce Mountain High School has several summer events open to the community.
The Healthy Community Coalition will offer a cooking class at Spruce Mountain Middle School in Room 180. This course will provide instruction on how to shop for and cook healthy meals. Classes will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays, beginning June 23. The six-week program is open to everyone ages 12 and older.
Trivia Nights provide participants an opportunity to play in teams to try to outsmart friends, family and co-workers in areas ranging from entertainment to pop culture to history. It will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays, June 24, July 15 and Aug. 12, at Spruce Mountain High School. All ages are welcome. Refreshments will be available and winners may receive special prizes.
Parents’ Night Out will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Fridays, June 26 and July 31, at the Livermore Elementary School. It’s a chance for parents to have a much-needed night to themselves. Children in kindergarten through grade five will play board games, complete arts and crafts projects and participate in other creative activities.
High school students who would like to volunteer on these nights are welcome but an AmeriCorps member must be notified beforehand. Donations will be accepted to support community service projects.
