LEWISTON — A Texas man was held on $100,000 cash bail Monday, a day after he was arrested on burglary and theft charges, police said.
Christopher Harvey, 39, of Lufkin, Texas, was nabbed by police Sunday after he was spotted in the River Valley area of Strawberry Avenue driving a stolen vehicle at about 8 a.m.
Officer Robert Dionne tried to stop the vehicle, which had driven a short distance down Tall Pines Drive. The driver jumped from the moving vehicle and fled on foot into a nearby wooded area, according to a news release.
Several officers came to the scene to help search for the suspect and secure the stolen vehicle. Police found several stolen items in the vehicle that had been taken from 730 Main St. on June 6.
Sgt. Trevor Campbell captured Harvey at about 10 a.m. near the River Valley apartments, where he had been staying with a friend.
Harvey was charged with burglary and theft by unauthorized taking, Class C felonies, punishable by up to five years in prison. He also was charged with being a fugitive from justice and with theft by unauthorized use of property, a misdemeanor.
He was held at Androscoggin County Jail in lieu of $15,000.
Police said more charges may be filed against Harvey.
