The Maine Wildlife Park on Route 26 in Gray will offer a program that allows visitors to watch their wildlife eat their daily meals at scheduled times throughout the day on July 4, starting at 10 a.m. The Park feeds its animals a healthy natural diet that is as close to what they would eat in the wild as possible. The Park also allows feeding the appropriate food to its deer, ground birds, bears and fish from their feed machines.

The feeding schedule is 10 a.m. for the garter and water snakes in the Visitor Center; 11 a.m. bears; noon for the eagles; 1 p.m. small mammals; 2 p.m. fawns; 3 p.m. lynx, bobcat, cougar; and 4 p.m. moose.

The Maine Wildlife Park is owned and operated by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and has over 30 species of native wildlife on display, plus wildlife gardens, nature trails, a fish hatchery and other interactive exhibits and displays. The park is open daily from 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. April 17 through Nov. 11; visitors may stay on the premises until 6 p.m.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I clipped a strawberry pizza recipe from the Sun Journal many years ago but have misplaced it. Would Sun Spots or readers have this recipe? — No Name, Auburn.

ANSWER: Strawberry Pizza Recipe: 1 cup flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/4 cup confectioners’ sugar, 1/2 cup melted butter or margarine, one 8-ounce package cream cheese (softened), one 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk, 1/3 cup lemon juice, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1/2 cup sugar, 2 tablespoons cornstarch, 1/2 cup water, 4 cups strawberries (halved).

Method: In medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt and confectioners’ sugar. Add melted butter. Mix well. Pat dough into 14-inch pizza pan. Bake in preheated 350-degree Fahrenheit oven for 10 minutes or until lightly browned. In medium bowl, combine cream cheese, condensed milk, lemon juice and vanilla. Mix well and spread on top of cooled crust.

In large saucepan, combine sugar and corn starch. Add water. Mix until smooth. Cook over medium heat (about 5 minutes) until thickened, stirring constantly. Add strawberries. Cool completely. Spread strawberry mixture over cream cheese layer and chill. Cut into wedges. Yield: 8 to 10 servings.
