DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am trying to find the address for the Langlais-Levesque families who lived on Falmouth Street in Rumford around the 1940s. I have some thing I would like to send to them. Thank you. — Norman Roy, 32 Riverside Park, Mexico, ME 04257.
ANSWER: Sun Spots almost didn’t print this letter because the reader sending in the question wrote a phone number that is incorrect (207-107-1047 is not a working phone number). Many people prefer to make a phone call as opposed to writing a letter. When these types of queries are submitted to Sun Spots, a legitimate phone number and/or address (street or email) needs to be included in case a reader wants to contact you directly.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: My question: Is there anyone who does repairs on a word processor? It’s made by Brother and it’s model WP-3400. It no longer will read the disks. Other than that, it still works. This letter was printed on it. Thank you. — Bob in Norway, 207-743-9246.
ANSWER: Sun Spots found two authorized Brother service centers. Cosco Technologies, Winthrop, 207-377-2897 and Augusta Business Machines, Fairfield, 207-453-9280. There may be other service centers.
SUN SPOTS: I’m sure this has been asked before, possibly many times, but I am new to this site (Sun Spot’s Facebook page). Who would I contact to get information on having names put on the stone monuments in the Veterans park on the Lewiston side of the Memorial bridge? — Amanda Auger via Facebook.
ANSWER: This information ran in a Sun Spots column in February this year: Applications for inscriptions can be picked up at Lewiston City Hall, or the Office of Veterans Affairs at 35 Westminster St., Lewiston, Maine or from Jerry DeWitt, L/A veterans Council chairman at Tri-County Mental Health Services, 1155 Lisbon St., Lewiston. Also from Normand Cote, vice chairman of L/A Veterans Council, 11 Pineland St., Lewiston. Calls can be directed to 207-782-1725 or email nmcote@roadrunner.com.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Recently I attended a baby shower at which some of the young mothers were talking about saving the placenta after the baby is born. Why is this done? — Curious, No Town.
ANSWER: Sun Spots located several sources for information about this topic. “The Mighty Quinn” serves Bath, Brunswick, Lewiston, Damariscotta and Portland areas in Maine. She can be reached at 207-522-2090 or quinn@doulaquinn.com. She can dehydrate and process the placenta and turn it into capsules that can be ingested for various health benefits, although this has not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.
Quinn can create an umbilical cord keepsake, placenta prints in maternal blood or non-toxic paint or she can prepare placenta tincture. She follows OSHA standard procedures for cleanliness.
Other certified birth doulas with similar placenta encapsulation services include Sandy Tufts and Nicole Niehoff. Sandy can be contacted at 207-475-5963 or sandytufts@gmail.com
Niehoff can be reached at 207-415-7333 or visit her site at www.mainebirth.com/.
