Yes, there’s a lot of “rescuing” going on here, which brings us to this question: Do any of your NEIGHborly readers (we ponies can be punny!) have any winter blankets (for both miniature and full-size horses), fly masks, equine boots, saddle pads, breast plates, saddles, bridles, reins, wagon wheels, manure rakes, etc., that they can’t use anymore? Well, stall no more! Let At a Bend in the Road, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization help you free-up some space.

Finally, it behooves us to admit that we’re having a helper type this, because we don’t have thumbs (snort, snort!). But we’d be whinnying ninnies if you’d contact us at Contact@AtaBendintheRoad.com or call 207-520-1466. Or, you can learn more about us at http://atabendintheroad.com/horse-team/. Thank you! — Located at 235 Berry Road, Hartford, Me.

HELLO SUN SPOTS: I wonder if you have any contacts who could help with the following questions. In Auburn I’ve noticed that there has been extensive work on some retaining walls (where a road cuts into the side of a hill to form either a sidewalk or the road itself). Who is responsible for the upkeep of these walls? We have one in front of our property as do all the neighbors and these walls are crumbling and in pretty sad shape. Do we need to report this? Is it property owners’ responsibility? I can imagine the work that has been done on both the art walk wall and the one at the start of Minot Ave was paid for by property owners. Thanks for any insight. — No Name in Auburn.

ANSWER: From City Engineer & Deputy Public Services Director Dan Goyette P.E. for the city of Auburn comes this reply: “Retaining wall ownership is site specific. The art wall and the one at the start of Minot Avenue are the property of the City and State. The City maintains a record of ownership on retaining walls which impact roadways throughout the City. Some are private, some public. The ownership dictates who would need to pay for repairs.” For more information about a particular wall, contact Dan at 207-333-6601 ext. 1134 or dgoyette@auburnmaine.gov.
