WINTHROP — The YMCA Camp of Maine will celebrate its 100th Anniversary on Saturday, Aug. 1 from 2 to 9 p.m. as part of its yearly Alumni Day event. All camp alumni, as well as interested families and friends of the camp, are welcome.

YMCA Camp of Maine is a summer resident facility for boys and girls ages 8 to 16. Since its founding as a “camp of character” in 1915, over seventy five thousand young men and women have attended. The Y Camp property, consisting of more than three hundred acres and three islands on Lake Cobbosseecontee in East Winthrop, is one of the most beautiful camp environments in Maine.

During the afternoon of the celebration, the camp’s waterfront and ball field facilities will be open for swimming, canoeing, sailing kayaking, volleyball, basketball and many other activities. Tours of the newly renovated girls and boys villages will be available. The celebration will include recognition of the Maine National Guard for their work at YCamp, dinner and musical entertainment in the main dining room, and a commemorative campfire. The event will conclude with a fireworks show on Lake Cobbosseecontee at 9 p.m.

Throughout its history, the YMCA Camp of Maine has provided a quality overnight camping experience at an affordable cost. Camper fees continue to be among the lowest in all of Maine. Y Campers come from throughout the state and across North America, and from all socio-economic backgrounds. It is this unique mix that makes the Y Camp experience so special.
