WATERVILLE (AP) — Explosives experts were investigating at a Maine college for nearly two hours after a suspicious container was discovered on campus.

Waterville Deputy Police Chief Charles Rumsey said Monday that security at Colby College found a fireproof document box near the Davis Science Center around 8:30 a.m. Sunday.

The Morning Sentinel reported (http://bit.ly/1EzdvsE ) a security employee alerted police to the discovery. Four officers from the Maine State Police Bomb/Explosive Unit arrived at around 10:30 a.m. to investigate.

Police helped direct traffic away from the science center, which was then considered a potential blast zone.

Investigators used a hydraulic technique to open the box. Rumsey says no explosives were found. The scene was cleared shortly before 12:30 p.m.
