With our series on Maine authors having come to a close, The Treat Memorial Library is pleased to announce a new fall series for its Book Club.

The Magic and Mystery Fall/Winter Book Series will begin Sept. 10th at 3 p.m. with Erin Morgenstern’s The Night Circus. This series will incorporate a bit of fantasy and the supernatural appropriate for the coming season. The meeting dates will be Oct. 8th, Nov. 12th, Dec. 10th, and Jan. 14th.

All meetings will be at 3 p.m. If you would like a copy of any of the books up for discussion, please contact the library and let Assistant Director Brianna know.

It is time again for the Maine Readers’ Choice Award. The Maine Readers’ Choice award honors the best in American adult fiction for the previous year and encourages conversation within reading communities. This year the nominees are Redeployment by Phil Klay, Euphoria by Lily King, and All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. Read, choose, and vote! You will be able to vote Sept. 1st -15th at www.mainereaderschoiceaward.org or at the library.

Preschool Story Time continues on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. Join us for stories, activities, and crafts! Keep an eye out in the coming months for special event Family Story Times as well.

Treat will also be taking part in the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program. This is a self-paced program that anyone can begin with their child from birth to before he or she enters kindergarten. The rewards of reading to your child are many, from bonding time to encouraging early literacy. The program is simple: read to your child and keep track of any titles that you read. Tracking sheets for the program will be available at the library.

Teen Writers will be meeting Thursdays Sept. 3rd and Sept. 17th at 6 p.m. All area teens that are interested in writing in any genre (fiction, non-fiction, poetry, fan fiction…) are encouraged to attend. The idea is to improve our writing skills with the encouragement of the group.

We will also explore different approaches and techniques involved in the writing process. Feel free to bring along anything you are working on. Participants will also receive a writing journal full of prompts to jump start the creative process.

Knit/Crochet will begin again on Sept. 22nd at 5:30 p.m. Whether you are a beginner with questions or a pro who just wants company while you create, please join us. Now is a good time to get a head start on those holiday projects!
