1971 – 2015
AUBURN — Monique Marie Hamann, 44, died Friday evening, Sept. 18, at 5:20 p.m. at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice in Auburn, after having cancer for two years.
Monique was born Feb. 22, 1971, the daughter of Laurier Jean and Muriel (Caron) Hamann. In 1989, she graduated from Lewiston High School; in 1998, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in textile merchandising and design with a double minor in fashion merchandising and business management from Middle Tennessee State University.
Her working career began in high school and beyond when she worked six years for Shaw’s. While attending MTSU full time, she also worked full time for Wal-Mart for a total of 11 years, holding various management positions. Her career with Kohl’s began in 2005 in Augusta, as assistant store manager. Monique was then assigned as store manager in Auburn for two years, followed by her most recent assignment as store manager of the Westbrook Kohl’s since March 2013.
Monique loved traveling for both work and pleasure. Among the many countries she enjoyed visiting were Canada, St. Lucia, Jamaica and Antigua, as well as a multitude of states within the U.S.
On May 31, 2014, Monique and her best friend, Michael Girouard, were united as soulmates in a beautiful, intimate family celebration.
Monique was an excellent cook and loved her cats, Jazzy and Tippy, and had a passionate love of life that radiated in all her encounters throughout her short time on Earth. Her success and accomplishments were the result of her dedication, good example, teachings of work ethics and integrity to those who depended on her for reaching goals and perfection. In everything, she aimed high!
Her faith, courage, strength, determination and perseverance through trying times allowed her to tolerate difficulties and disappointments, still with lasting hope and sincere gratitude for all that she received from those who cared for her so deeply. She remained sensitive and appreciative for all the kindness shown to her and her family.
Monique was a member of Holy Family Church, Prince of Peace Parish.
She leaves behind her soulmate, Michael Girouard; her mother, Muriel (Caron) Hamann; and her sister, Jacqueline M. Hamann, all of Lewiston. Also surviving are Michael’s children, Cody (Courtney) Girouard and Taylor (Jack) Girouard of Poland.
She will be sadly and sincerely missed by many aunts, uncles, special cousins, and a multitude of faithful and exceptional friends.
Monique was predeceased by her father in January 2009; her maternal grandparents, Albert R. and Marie-Jeanne Caron; and her paternal grandparents, Lucien and Yvonne Hamann.
