BETHEL — Students and staff at Telstar Regional Middle/High School are raising money Saturday, Oct. 17, for two students who were recently diagnosed with leukemia.

Secretary Eileen Meisner said 11th-graders Regan Kauf and Jonathon Locke are fighting the disease.

“We’ve done a lot up to this point,” Meisner said. “The students made a nice shirt for Regan, and they were able to sell a lot of those. We had a ‘Jeans for Jonathon’ fundraiser, where people would wear jeans to school and pay a dollar. All of the money raised through these fundraisers went towards supporting Regan and Jonathon and their families.”

Meisner said she and secretary Leann Caruso spoke with students at the beginning of the school year, and they wanted to continue doing something to help Kauf and Locke.

The next fundraiser, Laps for Leukemia, will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 17 at the Telstar Complex Track.

“The way the fundraiser works is that people wear something orange, donate whatever money they can and walk on the track for a couple of hours,” Meisner said. “People can donate whatever they can. We understand teenagers don’t have a lot of money, but every little bit can help. Some people are doing pledge cards.”

In case of rain, the walk will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1.
