RUMFORD — Douglas F. Clark, 81, of Dixfield, died Wednesday, Oct. 14, at the Rumford Hospital, surrounded by his family.

Doug was born in Rumford on Feb. 5, 1934, a son of Walter Gregory and Phyllis (Fletcher) Clark. He grew up in Dixfield, where he graduated from Dixfield High School in 1951. After high school, Doug began his career working at Boise Cascade in Rumford. He worked at the mill for 44 years before his retirement in 1996. On March 13, 1954, he married Sally Kenney, and together they made their home in Dixfield, where they raised their six children.

Doug was a family man who was happiest when spending time with his children and grandchildren. He particularly enjoyed making memories at the family camp on Worthley Pond, having lobster feeds and playing card games. Doug loved the Maine outdoors, especially snowmobiling up to Rangeley and Eustis. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading and watching NASCAR; he was a die-hard fan of Dale Earnhardt Sr. Doug was a dependable man and was the epitome of an excellent father.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sally K. Clark of Dixfield; children, Debra Berry and her husband, David, of Dixfield, Tammy Averill and her husband, Greg, of Dixfield, Douglas Clark Jr. and his wife, Karen, of Turner, Wayne Clark and his wife, Marie, of Westbrook, and Greg Clark of Dixfield and his companion, Jennifer Taylor, of Rumford; grandchildren, Nicole, Kevin, Seth, Samantha, Kim, Cole, Jaliegh, Katie, Jared, Michael and Chase; eight great-grandchildren; siblings, David Clark and his wife, Doreen, of Florida, and Bruce Clark and his wife, Alice, of Dixfield; a brother-in-law, Paul Bankson of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Kim Marie Clark; and a sister, Natalie Bankson.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the care Douglas received from the CNAs, nurses and doctors, especially Dr. Ledesma at Rumford Hospital.
