AUBURN — A woman who police said robbed a Lewiston bar at gunpoint in September was indicted Tuesday on that charge.

Lisa M. Gatts, 46, of 49 Knox St. was at the Acme Social Club at 255 Park St. on Sept. 28 at about 4:30 p.m. when she showed a handgun and threatened to shoot customers if the bartender didn’t give her cash, police wrote in an affidavit.

The bartender complied.

As Gatts was leaving, a local police officer saw her as the crime was being reported. He tried to stop her, but she fled on foot. During the chase, the officer could see a gun in her pocket and cash clenched in her fist. He caught up to her behind a nearby building, according to the affidavit.

A different officer arrived and shot Gatts with a Taser after she refused to comply with police orders.

After she was taken into custody, police found a BB handgun on her and $200 in cash near where she fell.

Some of the events of the incident were captured on a closed-circuit camera system at the club and retrieved by police, the affidavit said.

The bartender said she gave Gatts $180 in $20 bills and two $10 bills. Those denominations matched the currency found next to where Gatts fell, according to the affidavit.

A vendor who had been working at the club’s bar told police that Gatts pointed the handgun at him and threatened to harm him if she wasn’t given the money. The man believed the gun was a real firearm and feared being shot.

The Class B felony charge of robbery carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.

Gatts posted $5,000 cash bail on Oct. 31, according to the Androscoggin County Jail.
