DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Norway-Paris Kiwanis Club is lending a helping hand and providing toys to the families of needy children in Oxford County this holiday season. The Club has teamed up with the Christmas for Kids Program for the 2015 Christmas Parade.
Kiwanis members will dress up as characters from the “Toy Story” movies and will decorate their float to resemble the toy box from the movie.
Christmas for Kids and the Kiwanis Club are asking members of the public who attend the parade to bring one of the following items to donate and fill up our toy box: books, coloring books, markers and crayons, Disney, PlaySkool, Fisher Price or Vtech educational toys, Mega, Duplo and wooden blocks, PlayDoh kits, Tonka toys, superheroes, action figures, remote control vehicles, Lego kits for both girls and boys, craft kits for girls and boys, baby dolls, Barbies, Monster High, Bratz and My Life dolls, art kits, puzzles and board games.
As always, Kiwanis strives to make the lives of children in Oxford County a little better. Members hope that by getting these donations, they can make the holiday season that much more enjoyable for the children and take some stress off of parents who cannot afford these gifts. So, come on down to the Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade on Saturday, Nov. 28, with a toy in hand and give it to one of the Toy Story characters. Your generous donation will be greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please call Kiwanis President Jeffrey Wilson at 207-805-8810.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Each year Safe Voices sponsors the Adopt-a-Family program which allows us to match donors with families in need of assistance during the Christmas season. This year we have more families in need and not enough donors. Help us make this a special holiday for families affected by domestic violence, short on resources and unable to provide gifts for their children by sponsoring a family. To sign up for the program, please call Steve Moore at Safe Voices, 207-795-6744, ext. 210.
If you would like to participate, please go to our website www.safevoices.org and complete the participation form under the “Get Involved” tab or call Steve at Safe Voices.
Safe Voices is the domestic violence resource center serving Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties. For parents and children who have had to flee a dangerous situation at home, or who have started over and are struggling to make ends meet, donors can help provide a happy holiday in difficult times.
