Recently, I attended the service for veterans at Prince of Peace Parish Holy Family Church and I want to compliment Anne Sevidio and her committee on a wonderful program.

This was my 12th year in attendance, and I must say this has to be the most emotional of all previous years. I am not a fan of bagpipes; however, when I heard the Kora Highlanders perform that evening, I had a change of heart.

I was touched by the opening of the service with the bagpipers and their rendition of Amazing Grace; by the entire non-denominational program, attended by clergy from the area who gave a wonderful tribute to all veterans, past and present; and by the veteran speaker who gave the history on “Folding of the American Flag” accompanied by two veteran demonstrators.

In addition to the program this year, there were the Freeport Flag Ladies who carried the American Flag. They are to be commended for their dedication.

The choir arrangements under the direction of Dr. Paul Caron were patriotic and emotional.

I am looking forward to next year.
