The Mechanic Falls Historical Society has an important meeting scheduled for 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 20. The meeting is a call to all residents in support of the Mechanic Falls Historical Society so it can continue as an established organization in this community.

The society is seeking to form a group of a few interested citizens to come out and assist in maintaining its building at 64 Elm St. The society needs to catalog and record the holdings it has collected through the years. Proper cataloguing can only be accomplished by a team of people who are willing to give some time after the holidays.

After the first of the year, the building will be closed for any public or society functions in an effort to lessen the costs of operating the building in the winter.

Society members need to present to the town just what the society has and why it is important to have this collection in a central location.

Sunday’s meeting will not be long. Society members want to present an outline of action needed to undertake and hope enough people in town are willing to listen and participate.

If the society cannot gain more public support, the existence of the society and the preservation of the building might not be a subject in the future.
