SOUTH PORTLAND — After a tight first half, the Central Maine Community College women’s team exploded in the second half to run past Southern Maine Community College 68-38 on Wednesday.
Alex Rowe led all players with 17 points, Seve Deery-Deraps added 16, including a pair of 3-pointers, and Nicole Hamplin drained three 3s and 15 points for the Mustangs (11-4).
Frankie Lally and Abby Tilton each hit for five points, including a 3-pointer each.
Alicia Hoyt led the homestanding Seawolves with eight points, and Vanese Barnes added six for SMCC (11-3).
Men’s basketball
CMCC 82, SMCC 73
SOUTH PORTLAND — Elijah Barbour scored 20 points off the Central Maine Community College bench, including five of the Mustangs’ 10 3-pointers, to key an 82-73 men’s basketball victory over Southern Maine Community College on Wednesday night.
Carrington Miller added 19 points and Rob Skinner scored 16 for the Mustangs (12-4). Skinner added 10 rebounds and five assists.
The game was tied at 41 at the half before the Mustangs pulled away. Grayson Waterman led SMCC with 20 points. Jordan DeRosby and Ville Wuorenjuuri each chipped in 16.
Boys’ hockey
Scarborough 4, Edward Little 1
SACO — Matt Caron scored two goals for Scarborough, including the eventual game-winner with 2:54 remaining in the second period, to lead the Red Storm past Edward Little, 4-1, in boys’ hockey at MHG Arena on Wednesday night.
Cam Smith had a goal and two assists for the Red Storm (4-0). Jack Callahan chalked up a goal and an assist.
EL (2-2) tied the game on a power-play goal by Colby Bilodeau from Liam Benson. Caron reclaimed the lead for Scarborough 34 seconds later.
Devin Dumont made 31 saves for EL. Scarborough’s Ross LeBlond stopped 23.
