AUBURN — Who did it? That will be the mystery that guests will try to figure out at the Murder Mystery Tea, Desserts & Drinks event hosted by the Woman’s Literary Union of Androscoggin County at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at the Foss Mansion, 19 Elm St.
This sold-out event is inspired by “Downton Abbey,” a popular PBS series set in an aristocratic country estate in Great Britain during the early 1900s.
Professional theatrical entertainers from Mystery for Hire, owned by Dan Marois, will present a murder-mystery that features Auburn history and locals from the 1920s, as well as characters from the show.
Attendees don’t have to be a fans of the show to enjoy this event.
Three or four guests will be asked to play suspects during the evening’s entertainment.
Prizes will be given for the best 1920s-styled costumes.
The evening will feature tea and desserts similar to those that would have been served at Downton Abbey in the 1920s. A cash bar from Hi-Style Caterers will be available with selections of beer and wine.
Money raised at this event will go toward the college scholarships that WLU awards to Androscoggin County students majoring in literary pursuits such as English, humanities, writing and literature.
A snow date of Saturday, Jan. 23, has been planned.
