MEXICO — The Regional School Unit 10 board accepted the resignation of longtime teachers Susan Boyce-Cormier and Nick Waugh on Monday night.

Both will retire at the end of this school year. 

Board member Martha Hinshaw Sheldon of Sumner attended her first meeting. She is an educational technician in Lewiston. She replaced David Lynch, who moved out of the district.

Principals are being sought to replace Christopher Decker at Rumford Elementary School, who is retiring at the end of the school year, and Kim Fuller, who has served as interim principal at Meroby Elementary School since the beginning of this school year.

Superintendent Craig King said interviews for Meroby principal will begin Thursday.

“We hope to have a person to recommend within the next few weeks,” he said.

The Rumford principal’s position will be advertised soon, King said.

He said a survey will also be sent to parents of all Rumford Elementary School students requesting input for Decker’s replacement.

A search committee will be comprised of three board members, three teachers, one parent and one elementary school principal.

In other matters, Mountain Valley High School Principal Ryan Casey requested money be budgeted in 2016-17 for an additional staff member.

“The sixth-grade classrooms are full this year with 24 or 25 students in each,” he said.

Mountain Valley High School Principal Matt Gilbert also requested money for an interventionist to help boost math and reading scores. He said one person could likely serve in both the positions requested by the middle and high schools.

Also n Monday, Brittany Desgrosseilliers and Patrick Dunham were hired as special education educational technicians at Mountain Valley Middle School in Mexico.
