ANSWER: The Lewiston-Auburn area has a couple great choices for breweries that you can visit. Gritty McDuff’s is located at 68 Main St. in Auburn. It offers handcrafted ales and traditional pub fare. Baxter Brewing Company is located in Bates Mill in Lewiston and features an in-house retail shop and tap room. A short drive from Lewiston-Auburn is the Pennesseewassee Brewing Company located on the banks of the Crooked River at 458 Plains Road in Harrison. Another worth-the-drive brewery in the Sun Journal readership area is Tumbledown Brewing at 805 Farmington Falls Road in Farmington. Sunday River Brewing Company in Bethel is a pretty drive, as well, and also offers food.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Giddy Up & Go 4-H Horse Club is asking for your help in supporting the local equine community by joining with them in the 9th annual Hay Raiser for the Double B Equine Rescue in Industry. Every year our club collects bales of hay, monetary donations and other items for our local equine rescue and delivers them to the rescue. With the consistently high number of horses at Double B, there is no donation too small.
Currently there are 28 horses at Double B, ranging in age from eight months to 33. The smallest is Angel Marie, a mini-horse born last June who sadly lost a leg due to an accident when she was just a few days old. The largest is a 10-year-old draft horse named Piper. The rescue works hard to place horses in safe, loving homes and in recent weeks has adopted out five, including a mule.
If you would like to donate hay, grain or equipment, or for more information on how you can help our cause, please contact our fearless leader, Janine Winn, at (207) 778-3856. If you would like to mail a donation, please make checks out to Double B Equine Rescue and mail them to Giddy-Up & Go 4-H Horse Club, PO Box 518, Temple, 04984 so that we may get them to the rescue with the rest of our donations.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Love your column. I’ve had good luck with it. I am in desperate need of a used ramp for my deck. I am in a wheelchair now and I need a ramp to attach to my deck. I’m willing to pay a small amount for it or fair value. If anyone can help, they can call me after 4 p.m. at (207) 674-2410. Thank you. — Betsy, South Paris.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Would you please provide the name and phone number of the person who repairs EdenPURE heaters, again? I copied it down, but misplaced it. Thank you. — No Name, Oxford.
ANSWER: Sun Spots misplaces things sometimes, too. Here is the gentleman’s contact information again: Larry, 11 Faith St., Lisbon Falls. (207) 353-2368. Hope this helps.
