Grange to observe CWA Night

AUBURN — CWA Night will be observed at Danville Junction Grange on Thursday, March 10, when members and guests gather for a 6 p.m. supper. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m.

The program, planned by the Committee on Women’s Activities, will feature Kim Finnerty, program director for John F. Murphy Homes. She will speak on her activities at Whiting Farm.

Members are reminded to bring their carrot cake entries for the baking contest. They need to be at the hall by 5:30 for judging. Coupons for troops are also welcome.

All grange members and guests are invited to attend.

Lisbon seeks gardening volunteers

LISBON — The Town of Lisbon has many gardens that are maintained by a dedicated group of volunteers collectively known as The Green Thumb Gang. The town is seeking volunteers to join the gang.

Gardeners do not need special education, just a desire to help beautify the gardens. The town supplies the necessary items, and volunteers take the time to plant, water and clean up the garden area they choose.

There will be an informational meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, at the MTM Community Center in Room 10.

Downton Abbey fans can say farewell

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Public Library will hold a farewell to “Downton Abbey” event at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 12After six years, this is the final season of the show.

Passionate “Downton Abbey” fans are welcome to meet and share thoughts and feelings about the program. Tea and light snacks will be served while those attending discuss what were the best or worst Downton moments, characters, plot twists and deaths from the show.

There will be trivia and fun “Downton Abbey” themed games. Costume, tea-time or formal attire is encouraged. Registration is required. T

Travelers to meet March 12

MECHANIC FALLS — Members of Twin City Council 160 of the United Commercial Travelers of America will meet at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 12, at Bucknam Oaks for a business meeting and installation of officers.

DAR chapter to nominate officers

AUBURN — The Mary Dillingham-Burnt Meadow Chapter, DAR, will meet from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 12, in the Trafton Room of the High Street Congregational Church, 106 Pleasant St.

The agenda includes nominating candidates for chapter officers for the next term, discussing committee chairmanships and members’ areas of interest and filling a basket for the Basket Auction at the April 1 to 3 DAR State Conference. The theme of the basket is “Anything Pink.”

Those attending should bring a bag lunch and share thoughts and interests for the coming year. Prospective members are welcome.

Loaves & Fishes plan Scrapbook Day

LEWISTON — Loaves & Fishes will hold a Scrapbook and Stamping Day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 12, at the Cavalier Club, 855 Lisbon St.

There will be a door prize, raffles and vendors. Lunch will be catered and is included in the ticket price, which is $35 plus a canned item for the food pantry.

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Bridge Club winners on Feb. 29 were, first place, Rosemarie Goodwin and Paul Clement; second, Dick Allen and Pete Cummings; and, third, Marta Clements and Bob Kirchherr.

Pinochle, pitch players welcome

LEWISTON — Pinochle and pitch card games for seniors are played weekly at the Lewiston Armory, 65 Central Ave.

New players are always welcome. Pitch is played at 1 p.m. on Tuesdays. Pinochle is at 1 p.m. on Thursdays. Refresher courses are available in both categories.

Winter quilting class offered

MONMOUTH — The Winter Quilting Class will run from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through April 12 at the Packard Activity Center at the United Church of Monmouth.

The class is open to all who would like to quilt to learn, share ideas and show work. 

Everyone is welcome to work on the pattern, a chevron quilt. Admission to the class is $25.
