1922 – 2016
LEWISTON — Lydia Mae Morgan, 93, a longtime resident of Summer Street in Lisbon Falls, died Tuesday, April 5, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
She was born Sept. 15, 1922, in Rumford, a daughter of Herman O. and Clara (Marshall) Woods. Mae was educated in Bowdoin and Brunswick schools and graduated from Brunswick High School with the Class of 1940.
On Sept. 15, 1940, on her 18th birthday, Mae married Wilfred A. Morgan and together they raised their family in Lisbon Falls. Mae had worked various jobs over the years including working as a spinner in the textile mill and had operated a greenhouse out of her residence in Lisbon Falls.
Most of her life was devoted to raising and caring for her family. She attended services at South Bowdoin Baptist Church over the years and was active with the Lisbon Falls United Methodist Church serving as a Sunday school teacher for many years.
Mae enjoyed spending time crocheting, knitting, cooking and had enjoyed taking several cake-decorating classes. She was a member of the Sagadahoc Grange Hall in Bowdoin and had been active with the 4-H program.
Survivors include five sons, George M. and his wife, Madonna Morgan, of Bowdoin, Granville H. and his wife, Carlene Morgan, of Lisbon Falls, Maurice E. and his wife, Darlene Morgan, of Bowdoin, Dennis E. and his wife, Judy Morgan, of Lewiston, and Richard D. and his wife, Susan Morgan, of Bowdoin; a daughter, Marjorie M. Maloy of Lisbon; her daughter-in-law, Gail (Allen) Morgan of Bowdoin; 19 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mae was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred A. Morgan, who died in 1995; her son, Roland A. Morgan, who died Feb. 28, 2016; a sister, Eva Woods and a half-brother, Harold Woods.
The Morgan family would like to thank the caregivers on M1 unit at Central Maine Medical Center for the care given to Mae and the family during this most difficult time.
