SOUTH PORTLAND (AP) — The City Council in South Portland has postponed a final vote on a partial ban on pesticides that would limit the use of chemicals on lawns and gardens.
The Portland Press Herald reported (http://bit.ly/1r1n8Qv ) the final vote was scheduled for Wednesday but has been rescheduled for June 20.
The council gave preliminary approval to the proposal on April 4. Councilors said at the time that they wanted to change several aspects of the plan, including how it would be enforced and how waivers would be granted.
The proposal would prohibit synthetic pesticides on city-owned and private property, but it wouldn’t apply to organic pesticides. It also allows use of pesticides that are exempted from federal regulation.
A workshop has been scheduled before the vote for June 13.
