LEWISTON – Bates College artist-in-residence Frank Glazer will give a solo recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, in the college’s Olin Arts Center Concert Hall, 75 Russell St.
Glazer’s program will include Haydn’s “Sonata in D major,” Beethoven’s “15 Variations (with Fugue) in F-flat minor,” Debussy’s “Reflets dans l’eau” and Ravel’s “Ondine.” It also will have four works by Chopin, the “Ballade in F minor,” etudes in E-flat major and A-flat major, and the “Fantasy in F minor.”
The 88-year-old Glazer is an artist of international stature who taught at the Eastman School of Music for 15 years before retiring to Maine with his wife, Ruth, in 1980. The couple founded the Saco River Festival, held in Cornish every summer. A former student of pianist Artur Schnabel, Glazer is one of the few remaining protégés of that great musician.
Glazer’s career includes numerous recordings, his own TV program in the ’50s and countless solo recitals and concerts with orchestras and chamber ensembles, including the New England Piano Quartette, of which he was a founder.
The concert is open to the public at no cost. Call (207) 786-6135.
