BETHEL – The Gould Academy Performing Arts Series will present the documentary “Rivers and Tides: Andy Goldsworthy Working with Time” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, in the academy’s Bingham Auditorium
Goldsworthy, a landscape sculptor, is known for working directly with nature, using a variety of materials including leaves, twigs, flower petals, pine cones, sand, snow and stone to create works of sculpture in natural environments.
His work addresses issues of growth and decay, and the idea that artwork also has a natural life, which eventually must end.
A finished work of his can last for a few days or for a minute before a light breeze or an eddying tide picks it apart.
“Rivers and Tides” was directed by Thomas Reidelshiemer.
It has received critical acclaim, including winning the San Francisco Film Festival award for best documentary in 2002.
Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for children. Tickets will be sold at the door.
