BETHEL – The Denny Breau Trio will play at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, on the Common as part of the Bethel Bandstand Concerts. This is later than the usual time for these concerts.

This musically eclectic trio, led by Lewiston native Denny Breau on guitar and vocals, is a blend of country, bluegrass, rock, blues and jazz. Breau, who has performed throughout New England and the United States, is a recent inductee into Maine’s Country Music Hall of Fame.

The trio is filled out by Jim McLaughlin on piano, vocals and accordion, and Tom Zicarelli on saxophones and harmonica. McLaughlin and Zicarelli have also performed throughout New England and the United States. They share many years of playing together in various rock and jazz groups.

An improvisational musical interplay exists between the members of the trio as they perform originals and covers ranging from Merle Haggard or the Allman Brothers to Lyle Lovett and the Beatles.

Other concerts in the series will feature the female barbershop harmonies of The Mollyockett Chorus Aug. 22 and classic Americana performed by the Unknown Legends Aug. 29.

The free concerts usually begin at 4 p.m. Rain site: Bingham Auditorium on Church Street at Gould Academy.
