NEW YORK (AP) – Days off? Who needs them?
Lester Holt was appointed one-half of the anchor team for NBC’s “Weekend Today” show with White House correspondent Campbell Brown, the network announced on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Holt will keep his weekday afternoon newscast on MSNBC – meaning he’s scheduled to work seven days a week.
Oh, and he’ll continue to be the chief fill-in on the weekday “Today” show whenever Matt Lauer and Ann Curry are away.
“There’s a lot of flexibility built in,” Holt said. “Everyone realizes that you can’t work 365 days a year and I will not. I think I’ve got them down to 358.”
Holt said he’ll take days off from MSNBC during slow news periods.
Brown and Holt replace David Bloom and Soledad O’Brien as hosts of the top-rated news program.
Bloom died on April 6 while covering the war in Iraq, and O’Brien jumped to CNN to anchor a weekday morning newscast.
Brown has been a Washington-based correspondent for NBC News since 1998, covering former President Clinton’s impeachment trial and President Bush’s campaign.
Norah O’Donnell, NBC’s congressional correspondent, will replace Brown and be teamed with David Gregory at the White House, NBC said.
