PORTLAND (AP) — The Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland says five dogs rescued from a dog meat farm in South Korea are being treated in Westbrook.
The Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/1ZdgNfV ) reported the dogs were among 250 rescued by Humane Society International from the Wonju, South Korea, farm.
They were all placed with shelters within the Humane Society of the United States’ emergency placement partner program.
The dogs will be available for adoption once they are rehabilitated. They arrived at the Westbrook shelter on May 26.
The dogs have personalized training plans to help them adjust to life off the farm, where they were born and raised. The dogs are between one and two years old.
