ANSWER: Sun Spots just loves sharing good news, and the latest on Crescent Beach is that it has reopened for the 2016 season.
Crescent Beach, located on Taylor Pond in Auburn (on Chicoine Avenue, which is off Hotel Road), has been a favorite swimming and recreation spot in the region for decades and was missed by many locals and visitors when it did not open for the 2015 season (just do a quick search on Facebook and you can read about how sad people were that it was not open). Because the beach is privately owned, information about why it was closed in the first place is not readily available. Sun Spots did attempt to reach out to the owners, but has yet to hear back. Maybe they’ll read this and decide to clue Sun Spots readers in.
A few other local spots for swimming include Range Pond, a beautiful state park facility with beach and picnic areas located in neighboring Poland; No Name Pond in Lewiston is also a much-frequented spot; and just a little farther away is Outlet Beach on Sabbathday Lake in New Gloucester.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Friends of Tommy’s Feral Felines are always so generous to our kitty friends and another chance to help them is coming up. Tommy’s will be holding a combination yard sale and bottle drive, and we need both your recyclable bottles and cans as well as yard sale items.
