ANDOVER — A local art group is preparing for its third annual Andover Area Art Show on Aug. 5 and 6, in conjunction with the town’s annual Olde Home Days.
The show will take place at the old telephone building, formerly known as Addie’s Restaurant.
Wendy Hutchins, who has painted with the group since its inception in 2014, said the group doesn’t have an official name, they simply call themselves the Andover Art Group.
They are “group of women who get together once a week to create art,” she said. “Mostly, we work with acrylics, oils, and watercolors. Some of us do pastel work or collage work. The idea is to meet up and make art.”
Hutchins said, “We put a call out for work from Andover artists that represents our life here in Andover. Since it’s such a broad category, we’ve tried to limit the work we accept for the show to artists in the Andover area, living or dead, and make sure the art is something that hasn’t been displayed here before.”
The Andover Art Group displayed 108 pieces of original art in 2014; in 2015, they displayed 109.
Hutchins said members are “confident that the third show will equal or even top both of the previous shows.”
“The Andover area is really clicking lately in the art department,” Hutchins said. “We have a lot of very talented artists in this town.”
Any Andover artists are invited to drop off their work from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 31, or 8 a.m. to noon Monday, Aug. 1. Artists should call one of several artists involved with the group before dropping off their work.
“They can be paintings, drawings, sculpture, metal working and wood burning and carvings,” Hutchins said.
