DEAR SUN SPOTS: Where can I purchase powdered egg whites? I have searched high and low. Any help would be much appreciated. — Nancy, no town.
ANSWER: Powdered egg whites are often used to make royal icing, so many stores that sell cake-decorating supplies will have them available in that section. You might also find them in the baking aisle at the grocery store (Wal-Mart almost always has them). King Arthur brand (most commonly known for its flour) makes egg whites.
Depending on your purpose for needing them, you might also substitute meringue powder for powdered egg whites. The only real difference is that meringue powder has a small amount of sugar in it, but it can be substituted in most baking recipes that call for egg whites.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I do not know the awesome people who helped me when I was in a postal truck accident last Wednesday on Sabattus Street, but I cannot thank them enough for all the help and concern shown to me. We have wonderful Samaritans out there. I thank them from the bottom of my heart. And thank you, Sun Spots, for allowing me to let them know how much they helped and were appreciated. — Pam, no town.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am interested in getting a bugle so I can plays taps at military funerals. If you have one that you are no longer using, please consider donating or selling it to me. It would be appreciated. Please call (207) 577-2982 after 5 p.m. — A Concerned Veteran, no town.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: You are the person to go to when one has an unsolvable problem. Hebron Historical Society had its annual fundraising yard sale on Saturday, Aug. 20. A lady came and bought a large number of items. After she left, it was noted that a set of glasses and a pastel baby afghan were left behind on the checkout table.
These items have been set aside in hopes that she will see this column and contact Ruth MacDonald, the sale cashier, at (207) 966-3727 to make arrangements to pick up these items in Hebron. Please leave a message on her phone if she’s unavailable when you call. Thank you. — No name, Hebron.
ANSWER: It’s up to you now, readers. Help spread the word to reunite these items with their owner. Sun Spots knows you can do it — and if you need proof that Sun Spots works, just keep reading:
