The Lewiston Recreation had many outstanding performances at the Maine USATF 15 and Under Track and Field Championship on Saturday, Aug. 13. Lewiston had four individual event winners and took first place in five relays. The 11-12 Boys 4×400 Relay (Donovan Jackson, Nigel Katende, Shekh Mohamed, Jabreel Muhammad-Aceto) set a new state record with a time of 4:42.52 beating the old mark of 4:43.6 set by Scarborough in 1990. Lewiston qualified 45 athletes for the meet and placed ninth in the team championship (141) out of 38 teams. Poland won the Team Championship (361) followed by Old Town (224), Gorham (195) and Portland (192.5).

Coaching the team this year was Jenny Martin, Abshir Abukar, Kayla Allen, Jazlyn Dumas, Taylor Chamberlain and Isse Tawane. Earning points for the team by placing among the top 6 in their event included:

8U Girls: Muna Abdulle sixth in the 100-meter dash; Ambiya Aden, Jordyn Lowell, Samira Shariff-Hassan, Muna Abdulle second in the 4×100 relay; Gracie Herring, Barlin Salat, Asha Aden, Sundus Ali sixth in the 4×100 relay;

9-10 Girls: Anita Yonis fifth in the 100-meter dash; Lela Shariff-Hassan fifth in the 400-meter dash.

11-12 Girls: Shukri Deqow first in the 200-meter dash and second in the 80 yard hurdles; Fousiyo Matan third in the triple jump; Nasra Abdirahman fifth in the discuss; Shukri Deqow, Fousiyo Matan, Isho Ali, Anran Ibrahim, first in the 4×100 relay; Fousiyo Matan, Warda Yusuf, Anran Ibrahim, Mana Abdow fourth in the 4×400 relay;

13-14 Girls: Lauren Foster second in the 1500-meter racewalk.

11-12 Boys: Nigel Katende first in the 400meter dash; Jabreel Muhammad-Aceto first in discus; Donovan Jackson third in 800-meter dash; Farid Muhammad-Aceto fourth in hurdles; Donovan Jackson, Nigel Katende, Shekh Mohamed, Jabreel Muhammad-Aceto first in 4×100 relay; Donovan Jackson, Nigel Katende, Shekh Mohamed, Jabreel Muhammad-Aceto first in 4×400 relay.

13-14 Boys: Sam Davis fifth in 800-meter dash; Calvin Dundore fifth in high jump and sixth in hurdles; BenDostie fourth in javelin; Tyler Freeman first in racewalk; Calvin Dundore, Alex Patterson, Sam Davis, Tyler Freeman first in 4×400 relay.

Co-ed Relays: 8U — Ahmed Aden, Ambiya Aden, Joshua Allard, Samira Shariff-Hassan first; 9-10 — Domante Powell, Qumar Ali, Anthony Begin, Lela Shariff-Hassan second.
