What is the most pressing problem in your district and what do you plan to do about it?
One town has been pursuing a new formula for educational taxation with its school district. We have been working for two years and it continues. This is challenging and a very unique situation; with patience and continued collaboration I believe that a positive outcome for all can be reached.
Gov. Paul LePage wants to eliminate the state income tax. Do you support that? If not, why not?
I am encouraged by this option/possibility for Maine people and support it.
Are you willing to support raising the fuel tax to fix Maine roads? If not, why not?
Not at this time. I had experience with gas taxation in my prior terms and once it is in, it is very difficult to either address or eliminate. I don’t support automatic increase/indexing which is what we have had in place in the past.
The relationship between the governor and the Legislature has deteriorated over the past six years. What can the Legislature do to improve that relationship?
The Legislature must be mindful of its duties and legal parameters and work within them. They can respect the office of the governor and allow him the same opportunity to fulfill his duties. My hope is we can work on a more respectful, productive relationship that will foster good legislation.
What methods do you support to reduce opiate addiction in Maine?
More drug enforcement working within the communities and schools, along with more education for our youth. We also need more care and treatment for those addicted in an accountable way.
