MEXICO — The Board of Selectmen voted unanimously Tuesday to lease a truck for the Public Works Department.
The winning bid of $43,799 for a Dodge 5500 with equipment was from Central Maine Motors in Waterville.
Town Manager John Madigan said he would have a lease agreement ready at the next board meeting Nov. 15.
There were no bids for the one-ton truck that’s being replaced, so it will be donated to the town Recreation Department.
Before the meeting, a public hearing was held regarding a request to place a stop sign at Oak Street and Middle Avenue. No one from the public was present to speak on the issue.
The hearing was prompted by a letter from a Middle Avenue resident saying traffic in that area was moving too fast.
“I looked at that area,” Madigan said. “It’s a long stretch and would be a good place to slow traffic down.”
After closing the hearing, the board approved a motion by Selectman Andy Dupuis that two stop signs be installed, resulting in a three-way stop. There is already one stop sign at that four-way intersection.
Madigan said the additional signs will be placed as soon as they notify Dig Safe for the posts.
Library Director Heather Rogers said recent Pumpkinfest activities raised around $300 for the library. Three laptop computers have been ordered, and she will be turning in an application seeking a $1,000 grant that would provide a new children’s listening center.
She noted that the library’s Advisory Board is beginning the process of updating policies regarding the public use of the library.
In other business, the appointment of Nancy Lever as a ballot clerk was approved.
Madigan announced that the winter parking ban will begin with the first snowstorm and will be in effect from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. until April 17.
“Any vehicle in violation will be towed at the owner’s expense,” he said.
