ANDOVER — A money-saving proposal combining many of the town’s accounts into a new Public Works Department was prepared by selectmen Tuesday night, Selectman Jane Rich said Wednesday.

Expenses of the road commissioner, including the town commons, the cemetery, the town garage, summer roads and winter roads, and highway equipment repair and maintenance, will fall under the Public Works Department if voters approve of the article at their town meeting in March, Rich said.

Also included within the department will be “upkeep of the ball field and repairs to the swings and backstop and the dugouts, and (the) costs to have a Porta Potti year round at that site,” she said.

“People don’t realize how big of a chunk those necessities are out of our budget,” she said. By combining all of these expenses, the town treasurer will have much less bookkeeping to do and the road commissioner will have a lot less paperwork, Rich said.

In other news, a seminar on property revaluation will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan, 14, downstairs at the town hall. It will be ffacilitated by John O’Donnell of O’Donnell Associates and Vern Maxfield, town manager of Woodstock.

“I hope we have a good turnout and that people (will understand the information) and will go along with the revaluation so we can get moving on that, because we definitely need it,” Rich said.
