SAINT AGATHA — Police in a town at the northern edge of Maine say a driver who struck and killed a horse was charged with operating under the influence.
Police say Tommy Collins of Sinclair was driving past a farm in Saint Agatha on Sunday evening when two horses entered the roadway. They say he could not avoid hitting one of them and it died in the collision.
Collins sustained minor injuries and refused medical treatment. Police then investigated and arrested Collins for operating under the influence.
Police say the horse’s owner was notified and the horse’s body was removed from the road.
It was unclear on Tuesday if Collins has retained an attorney. He is due in court in March.
