Girl scoutsto host meeting
LEEDS — Girl Scouts of Maine will host a parent information and registration meeting to share the many ways today’s girls and adult volunteers can participate in Girl Scouting in the Leeds area. The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Leeds Central School. Girl Scouts is for girls between the ages of 5 to 17.

Society meeting
LISBON — The Lisbon Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday,
Oct. 14, with guest speaker Peter Hunter of Lisbon,
who will tell the story of his late father, “The Big Man from
Durham/Freeport named George Hunter,” who had a radio program in the 1940s
and 1950s, sold harnesses for horses and was on TV in late
1950s. George Hunter farmed in Durham and became a State Legislator for
the Lisbon/Durham area in the 1960s. A social will follow the evening
presentation.
Weatherization
LEEDS — The MSAD 52 Adult
and Community Education will sponsor a basic weatherization class from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, at
Rural Community Action Ministry, Church Hill Road. Basic
weatherization techniques will be examined and materials will be
explained. A review of tips to keeping warm during the winter will also
be discussed.
The class is free and selected materials will be available for
distribution without charge. Call the Adult Education office at 225-3478 to
sign up for the class.
Military network
LEWISTON — The Maine Military and Community Network will meet at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, in Room 170 at Lewiston Auburn College, 51 Westminster St. Deployment challenges that servicemen and women and their families face will be discussed, as well as the available resources. Lead training
AUBURN — The Maine Labor Group on Health will offer the Renovation, Repair and Painting initial course to reduce and eliminate the exposure of lead dust on Tuesday, Oct. 13 and again on Friday, Oct. 30. Interested landlords should call as soon as possible, as the courses are limited to 20 students and are filled on a first come, first served basis.
